the Boxed edition
The Prayers
This special version of the prayers was edited by Rosemary Woodruff Leary, living as a fugitive underground after leaving Timothy in Switzerland ('71).
Rosemary who helped Timothy with the original edition when they first met, created this edition as a tribute to their years of work together. Each Prayer is printed on heavy paper with a boarder frame of art of the times.
For esotaric reasons there were 49 prayers selected from the orignal 55 for this edition. Timothy agreed.
History
The first publication of 'The Psychedelic Prayers' was release in the spring of 1966 by Timothy Leary in Millbrook, NY.
'The Psychedelic Experience' an earlier publication, by the former Harvard Professors, Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert and Ralph Metzner, (based upon The Tibetan Book of the Dead) was the first publication with guidance for the transformations, realizations and confrontations that can occur in an LSD or similar Psychic Accelerated Experience.
'The Psychedelic Prayers', (based upon the Tao Te Ching, an ancient more abstract series of poems), became one of the most trusted and used guide books for 'sessions' in 60's. And is still in use today.
Box case
On the 50th Anniversary of the printing of the boxed edition of the prayers, a limited number of complete prayer sets were uncovered and assembled (due to a flood a number of years before most all of the stashed sets were destroyed).
Of the original printing 6 box cases were made and gifted to the close circle (a few maybe be found in archives). The original designer and builder of those boxes designed and constructed a limited 50 year commemoration box to contain the remaining sets.
