“They provide the spiritual seeker using psychedelics with an unsurpassed guidebook to
the realization of the highest potentials of the human mind and off these amazing substances."
Ralph Metzner, Sonoma Ca Oct 1996
This special version of the prayers was edited by Rosemary Woodruff Leary, living as a fugitive underground after leaving Timothy in Switzerland ('71).
Rosemary, who assisted Timothy when they first met with the original (1966), created this edition as a tribute to their years of work together. Each Prayer is printed on heavy paper with a border frame of art of the times.
49 prayers were selected from the orignal 55 for this special edition. Timothy agreed with this before printing.
The first publication of 'The Psychedelic Prayers' was release in the spring of 1966 by Timothy Leary in Millbrook, NY.
'The Psychedelic Experience' an earlier publication, by the former Harvard Professors, Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert and Ralph Metzner, (based upon The Tibetan Book of the Dead) was the first publication with guidance for the transformations, realizations and confrontations that can occur in an LSD or similar Psychic Accelerated Experience.
'The Psychedelic Prayers', (based upon the Tao Te Ching, an ancient more abstract series of poems), published by the 'League for Spiritual Discovery' became one of the most trusted and used guide books for 'sessions' in 60's. And is still in use today.
On the 50th Anniversary of the printing of the boxed edition of the prayers, a limited number of complete prayer sets were uncovered and assembled (due to a flood a number of years before most all of the stashed sets were destroyed).
At the time of the original printing; 6 box cases (prototypes) were made and a set gifted to the close circle (a few maybe be found in archives). The original designer and builder of those boxes designed and constructed a limited 50 year commemoration box to contain the remaining 10 sets.
